Just watched Ashleigh McIvor, Canada’s Gold Medalist in the women’s skicross being interviewed on CTV, the Olympic channel.
She said something very profound worth sharing. I will have to paraphrase what she said, but I think I caught the drift.
The interviewer said, “is it true that you knew you were going to win before you started the gold medal race?”
No, she said, that’s not what happened. I was standing at the gate, seeing the rain, the fog and such, but I didn’t concentrate on the results of what would happen if I lost. I just said, I am at the
right place, this is for me.
That’s what sports psychologists want all their athletes to feel, no fear.
Now I know that isn’t exactly what she said, but it was something very close. I truly believe that is the difference in so many events, the winners stop thinking of what will happen if they lose, and instead go for it.
Has anyone else had any experiences like this?
