It has happened again. We’ve got snow on the roads and the only one’s who are happy are the kids. And why not, nothing like that first slide down a hill.
But for we older folks, it means shoveling and that means some of you will end up with BACK PAIN.
So what to do? Most people will put on a heating pad and it does feel quite wonderful. A few will put on ice and it feels nothing but cold.
It is best to use ice for acute back pain. Ice for 10 to 15 minutes will contain the inflammation in your spine and numb the area. Repeat the ice every 1/2 to 1 hour, depending on the severity of the pain.
Don’t use heat as it will feel good at the time but ends up spreading the histamines that are giving you the pain. End result, the back stays sore longer and healing is delayed.
So there you go, from my chiropractic perspective.
